History of Broken Hill NSW

Broken Hill was established as a mining village in the 1880s. A place where over the decades, people have experienced hardship but shown heroic survival in one of the most isolated parts of Australia.

The architecture of a bygone era captivates visitors. Emaroo Oxide, Emaroo Argent and Emaroo Williams are all restored miners cottages. Within Broken Hill there are more than 350 properties listed as locally significant.

There are wonderful museums, galleries and other sites that give you an insight into the history of Broken Hill.

The best thing is after you have explored each day you can come back to your ‘home away from home’ Emaroo Cottage. We’ve thought of everything to make sure that your stay is a deluxe and enjoyable experience.
